Heinrich Heine was a favorite poet for Mendelssohn. In Wasserfahrt, or Waterway in English, Heine provides a pictorial poetry that Mendelssohn seizes upon. Throughout the short piece the listener senses the insistent rocking of the boat and slapping of the water (Publisher description)
